AIRC – EDU
The EDU team of the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition (formerly Safe Schools / K12 Committee) is dedicated to ensuring that students and their families in the Clarke County School District and surrounding areas have the information and support they need to feel safe and empowered. This team works to provide resources about immigrant rights, access to services, and school-related policies that affect immigrant families. By partnering with schools, parents, and community organizations, the EDU team helps create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students, regardless of immigration status.

What We Do
The team is organized into four working groups, each focusing on a key area of support. The Therapy and Trauma Group connects students and families with mental health resources and helps schools respond to trauma in culturally sensitive ways. The Parent Information Group ensures that families are aware of their rights and available support services. The Teacher Information Group works with educators to provide training and resources on supporting immigrant students in the classroom. The Fundraising/Social Media Group raises funds to support these efforts and manages outreach to keep the community informed and engaged. Volunteers may work closely with schools, families, and advocacy partners to help make schools a safer and more welcoming place for immigrant students.
