Law, Policy, & Advocacy Team
The Law, Advocacy, & Policy Team of the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition (AIRC) plays a critical role in monitoring and responding to changes in immigration-related policies and laws at the national, state, and local levels. This team works to stay ahead of the rapidly shifting legal landscape, ensuring that AIRC’s leadership and members are well-informed and prepared to respond effectively. By keeping a close eye on legislative and policy developments, the team helps shape AIRC’s advocacy efforts and ensures that the coalition’s work is grounded in up-to-date legal knowledge.
Get Involved
- Monitor and research potential policy changes and new bills.
- Contact elected officials so they know how their constituents feel about upcoming policy votes.
- Draft statements and calls to action for the community to write letters, call, etc.
- Canvass to local businesses requesting their support in the movement.
What We Do
The team also takes the lead in mobilizing the community to advocate for more inclusive and just policies. This includes organizing meetings with policymakers, drafting statements and calls to action, and providing resources to help community members engage in advocacy efforts. Volunteers working with the Law, Advocacy, & Policy Team may help research policy issues, track legal changes, and assist with drafting communications to keep the broader AIRC network informed and prepared to act. This is an ideal role for those passionate about social justice, policy research, and community organizing.
